 So what is the difference between a cat tree, cat condo, cat gym, and a cat tower?  A cat tree and cat gym are about the same - a structure that cats can play, be active, and get a good workout while climbing and still have places to be a lazy cat on.  The cat condo is like a tree house that has enclosed boxes like rooms for the cats to hide, play and sleep in.  A cat tower is a really tall tree or condo.

 So why do cats get furniture?  Cat's have a natural desire to climb, and if they don't have their own then they will use your furniture.  Cats love to play and chase each other so giving them a designated play area keeps them from clawing your couch or running across your lap at full speed.  

Cats also use height to establish the house hierarchy.  The dominant cat gets to be higher in the room.  The more levels that are available, the more the cats can spread out without causing fights.  Example: one level with three cats can cause lots of fighting, but five levels gives each cat a choice of where to go.

 Cats like to be in the room that you spend most of your time, so to get the most out of the cat tree it should be placed in the room that you are in the most.  Experiment with the placement - cats love looking out windows.
